Meeting the Challenge
There is a pressing and growing need for highly educated and skilled leaders and managers in the third sector. In the continually changing economic, political, and social context in which nonprofit organizations must function, managers and leaders are assuming multiple and demanding roles in relating to various constituencies. A study conducted by The Bridgespan Group published in April 2009, confirmed a leadership shortage in the nonprofit sector. Two key factors are contributing to the growing demand for skilled leaders and managers within the field: impending retirement of baby boomers and organizational growth and complexity.Within the areas of human services and the arts, the need is acute. As one of two programs in the southeast United States offering a Master's in Nonprofit Management, High Point University is strategically positioned to offer students not only the research-based information necessary for understanding the nonprofit sector but also the practical skills and knowledge necessary to be immediately effective within the workplace.
